Last night I experienced one of the most frightening experiences of my life. After driving about 5 hours to my sister’s house in Charlotte, we were finally pulling into her neighborhood. With Lucy and the Wife in the back seat, I started to get sweaty and had the overall feeling something wasn’t right. And that’s the last thing I remember.
The next thing I know, my wife is helping me out of the car, which was stopped in the middle of the road. I had puke all over me. She’s trying to get my parents on the phone, who are also at my sister’s house, literally around the corner from where we were parked. I sat down in the grass and tried to figure out what happened.
According to the wife, I said I needed to stop and I need to put the car in park (apparently, I was saying everything I was doing). Then I passed out. While passed out, I started convulsing and barfed all over the place. That’s probably enough detail for you. The point is, I blacked out, shook like crazy and barfed all over myself (and my car). And the only thing I remember is thinking I didn’t feel good.
I’m so thankful we were off the highway and in a residential area. A few minutes prior, and this may’ve been a different story. Jesus, I had my kid in the car.
I still don’t know why this happened, and of course I stubbornly objected to any attempts to call 911 or take me to a hospital. So I guess I may never know. But holy shit, wtf?
So I’ll be spending my Saturday in Charlotte devomitifying a Ford Explorer.

  3. penbleth said: I hope by now you have seen a Dr. You may well have had a seizure, you need to be tested to be sure and until then you don’t drive. You could kill yourself and/or someone else. I know this is scary, I know, but you must get this sorted and be sensible.
  4. atsirhciam said: Um, go to the doctor! Grrr! So glad you weren’t on the highway!
  5. evonikka said: Matt! What advice would you give to someone else had that happened to them? Right. Doctor. ASAP. You know it is the right thing to do for yourself and your family.

  10. ungracefulme said: Why would you not go to the doctor? This is not normal. Next time you and your family might not be so lucky.

  14. sarkastickunt said: that sounded like a seizure….please go to the doctor and get checked out. If you have an undiagnosed seizure disorder, this could happen again.
